Laos may not get as much attention as trips to their neighboring
country, but this southeast Asian gem has plenty of opportunity for

Four Thousand Islands
Technically known as the Si Phan Don, the Four Thousand Islands is an archipelago located in the Mekong River that offers some of the best kayaking you'll find. This stretch of the river is an especially popular adventure travel option because it appeals to kayakers of all skill levels - you can paddle gently and admire the beautiful scenery or give yourself more of a challenge.
The Four Thousand Islands is also an ideal kayaking spot due to its many landmarks. For instance, you should make a point to check out the Khone Falls. Although they are a group of impassable rapids, they are quite a sight to behold.
Tham Kong Lo
There are few experiences quite like exploring the inner-workings of enormous caves, and Laos' Tham Kong Lo is no different. This enormous geological feature is one of the most unique in the region. The cave runs about 4.3 miles deep and in some places the ceiling rises as high as 300 feet. Not only that, its cavernous interior is home to a breathtaking pool that attracts tourists with its bright green glow.

One of the most striking Khmer temples, Wat Phu is the perfect place for travelers who want to be on their feet during their tour of Laos. The complex is located at the base of Phu Kao, and is surprisingly bereft of crowds for a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The site also offers stunning views of the Mekong river and is the perfect place to explore by foot.
